For convenience sake let me share first about wearing jewels

Can Christians wear Jewels or Not?

For convenience sake let me share first about wearing jewels and then not wearing jewels.

Wearing Jewels:

In 1Peter 3:3-4 Peter and 1Tim 2:9-10 both Peter and Paul says that, do not decorate with gold, silver and costly dresses, and instead

decorate by the eternal fruit of the Spirit. 1Peter 3- Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair,

and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; Vs.4 - But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not

corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

In olden days the Ethiopian, African and Middle East women used to braid their hairs in small strands with gold, silver

and pearls by wasting so much time. Perhaps they might have attracted others with this type of hair fixing. Still braiding hair

is a fashion for them. I came to know through an African sister that, they used to spend lot of time and in order to preserve

that hair do, they won’t have hair wash even for a month.

Peter and Paul advices that, it is better to spend the time with the Lord rather than wasting so much time for decorating the hair.

They would have advised not to attract and tempt other people by wearing jewels and advised to decorate with the things as  in

Gala5.22-2,“Love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance”.

Our God is not against to wear jewels. For example in Exo11.2 the Lord asks Moses, “Speak now in the ears of the

people, and let every man borrow of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels

of gold. [ Exo12.5 and Micah 7.15] In  Jer2.32 says, “will a bride forget her ornaments?” and Isa.61.10 Says,

“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of

salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as

a bride adorned herself with her jewels.

In the story of ‘prodigal son’ Jesus compared the earthly father with our heavenly father. The father hugs and gives

the ring to his son to express his love towards his son’s return and forgives him. [Lk 15.22] In Ezekiel 16- 11,12.13-God

says through Ezekiel about  Jerusalem      I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and

a chain on thy neck.  And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.

Thus wast thou decked with gold and  silver; and thy raiment  was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat

fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.

One thing we must accept that, these days irrespective of wearing jewels or not the Spirit of God is anointing everyone who ever

is thirsty as it is written in Joel 2:28-29. In the same way in order to extend His Kingdom by redeeming the souls and to glorify

His Holy name God is using some women in a mighty way. [ God is not a respecter of person, as well He sees only our heart]

I have seen these chosen women or God’s servants wear only simple jewels. Where as some women in traditional churches as

well as in spiritual churches, want to exhibit their jewels by wearing whatever they have from their neck to ankle to show of their

wealth and dignity.  Can’t understand to whom they exhibit and expose their wealth!!! In other words it denotes their pride and

dignified positions. Where as there are some young girls who are not in a position to buy one or two gram rings even for their wedding.

In Luke 7th chapter we reading about the centurion who humbles himself before Jesus Christ in spite of his authority and position.

Vs.6 - Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him,

saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou should enter under my roof: Vs – 7,

wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

Vs – 8, For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes;

and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. If such a respectable and prestigious

man in a society and who stands before the earthly king can humbles himself in front of the King of Kings, how much more we

should do? We need to learn this humbleness from this Centurion. We must recollect and compare our current blessings and the

life we enjoy with that of our fore Fathers, then for sure we will not show any pride, prestige, position etc. Though we were

unworthy God is blessings us. So we need to humble ourselves in front of God. The word of God says that we need to guard ourselves

when we enter in to the House of God.

James 4.6 says, ‘But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto

the humble. Lk: 12.15 says, ‘take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the

abundance of the things which he possesses.

When God has blessed you with this much wealth, prosperity, name and fame, can’t you decrease and humble in front

of him at least by wearing simple jewelry? Will it harm you? If not please note that, you are showing your pride of job,

position, jewels and its beauty, expensive clothes etc before the Almighty God and the congregation. In this situation

how a poor man can get along with you in church? How the Spirit of Oneness can manifest? How the prayers will be

answered if there is difference of opinion? How come everyone can worship in liberty? Even after knowing the truth,

the pastors and elders in the churches, give preference and priority to the people who are showing their wealth, jewels

and silk clothes, not to the middle class and poverty stricken members.

Let’s see the Word of God in James 2. 2-6

Vs.2 - For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in

also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 - And ye have respect to him that wears the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place;

and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my  footstool:

4 - Are ye not then partial in your selves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 - Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the

kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 - But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

Hence do not show partiality in the House of God, try to give preference to those  down trodden and poverty stricken.

Mingle with them; find out their needs and help them in the way you can either as church or individually. By doing this only

you can bear the fruit of the Spirit and reflect the love of Jesus Christ. Your reward and treasure will be more in heaven only

when you are ready to forgo or sacrifice something for the sake of the Lord. Glorify the Lord’s name by bearing witness

through the fruit of Spirit. Whatever you lose on this earth for the sake of the Lord, will be a gain unto you in Heaven [Luke18.29-30]

Not Wearing jewels:

I really respect the people especially the women who are not wearing Jewels willingly, sacrificially and with whole heartedly.

Which shows the true love and for God and the dedication [Colo 3.24]. Some Christians remove the jewels in order to

follow the church rules and to satisfy the pastors – out of compulsion. The church rules and constitutions are necessary;

it is good to maintain discipline. It is not to say that, you will go to heaven only when you don’t wear jewels and if

you don’t take any medicines. It is all misconceptions. Yet some others remove the jewels emotionally and then after

few days they will wear it. Another set of people are there, who won’t wear jewels but they will wear the most expensive

clothes i.e. instead of wearing jewels they will use costly dress. Why then the churches are not imposing any rules for

on these? For example; if anyone has more than two they must give one to the person who is not having. It has become

a fashion among believers to have plenty and variety of dresses and at times they really do not know which dress to wear.

I was astonished to see a sister cursing her sister-in-law and mother in-law just because they were against her in the family.

This particular sister removed her jewels as a token of dedication but with unforgiving nature, anger, envy, irritation etc.

Some ladies especially those who removed jewels, never bear witness either in their families or in the working place. They are

very clever to seize the opportunities, by exhibiting their anger, gossip, slander, selfishness and vengeance resulting in divisions in friendship,

fellowship and relationship. That means yet they haven’t crucified their flesh on the cross. So they pave the way to others to criticize by

comparing those who were wearing jewels. See what is written in James 3.14 -16. Vs14 - But if ye have bitter envying and

strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. Vs15 - This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly,

sensual, and devilish. Vs16 - For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every

evil work.

A traditional Pentecostal pastor in Chennai once mentioned an incident with great burden. Some of his church members after attending

the church service, when they returned home, the water lorry came in to the street; these believers by tucking their sarees in the hips

started to fight with their neibhours by abusing them with all sorts of filthy bad words.

Some of them say that they hate jewels, they are holy, why then their jewels are kept under safe custody in bank and collect dowry

secretly? Asking dowry is wrong even as per the government. James5.3 says; your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of

them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the

last days. It is like, “I won’t wear jewels but i will keep and preserve jewels”!!!

In some churches the bride and bride groom wear only white dress and exchanges the Bible as a token of their marriage symbol,

where as for reception they will be wearing gorgeous dress and some of them even wear jewels - Why? Whom you are afraid?

Why two strands? To whom you fear and obey? You do oblige the rules and regulations of the church, for the pastor or for the

Word of God? We are not to imitate the worldly, fear the lord and serve Him whole heartedly.

It is even more sad to mention that, some of the believers those who wear only white dress and not wearing jewels, never mingle

or get along with their neighbours or co workers. They just want to live an isolated life in order to protect from the world. If it is so, how

they can win the souls and how can they share Christ’s love. At times they even under estimate the other fellow brothers or believers or

church members. Kindly do not under estimate or judge others with yourself righteousness. It is against God’s will, the Word of God says

that our righteousness is like a filthy rag. Woe for you brethren. You need to bear the Spiritual fruit, in order to reflect Jesus Christ,

by doing so; people should accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. This kind of witnessing life is badly required for the present age.

Since you are not wearing jewels, the people around you expect the Christ centred and fruitful life. Hence decorate yourself with inner

beauty, keep your heart clean as white as snow, instead of wearing white dress and bear the fruit of the Spirit and do not be a disgrace to

our Lord Jehovah with the external things. So that by seeing your external fruits the people will know who Christ is and accept Christ

Jesus as their personal Saviour. Pastors, I know one sister who is leading a witnessing life to Jesus, at times even I heard the comments

by her colleagues, saying, ‘Sister really Jesus is with you’. Whereas just because she is wearing jewels, she was not allowed to partake

the Holy Communion!!! If Jesus Christ was there instead of that pastor i hope definitely he would have allowed this sister to partake the

Lord’s Supper. In order to respect that church regulations she kept quiet and returned from the church.. What a pity?

It s very sad to mention that, some pastors consider the out ward appearance and condemn the believers, and serve Holy Communion to those

who are not clean in their heart. Please teach your congregation to lead a witnessing life in all the places rather than imposing them to wear

white dress and to remove jewels which will not save the souls. This is my passion.

Eph 4:22 – 24, ‘Put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the

deceitful lusts; Vs - 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Vs - 24 and that ye put on the new man, which

after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. According to these words let everyone imitate Jesus

Christ of Nazareth and win the souls by leading a victorious holy life.

Mat 5:16 let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

So let your light shine to glorify your heavenly Father and bring the perishing souls in to His

kingdom. John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not

walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Beloved, as written above, let us examine ourselves and ask, are we glorifying the Father’s name by our deeds? Do we reflect

Jesus Christ? Do we bear the fruit of the Spirit? If we say yes to all then definitely we will be walking in light with Jesus by

denying ourselves and bearing His cross daily in His footsteps as it is written in Luke 14:27 And whosoever doth not

bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

In order to serve and witness Christ we must crucify ourselves, especially the letter which mean ‘I, the words Me and Mine’

which stands for self. My name should be there, only I can do this, it is mine, if this possession of I, My and mine are

crucified in all aspect then we can truly and whole heartedly serve the Lord and witness

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Our inner beauty shouldn’t be within the four walls of the church, it has to be manifested outside

to reach out the perishing souls and to glorify our Lord’s name as it says in Phi 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all

men and Phi 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God,

without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

Beloved, the coming of the Lord is nigh, lets get ready to meet the Lord and as well prepare others to get ready. Let this be

the main focus, rather than the gold, silver, wealth and these worldly possessions. We must seek the heavenly possessions.

Ezekiel 7:19 says that, in His day, they shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed:

their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they

shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumbling block of their iniquity.

Also if we look in to Zep 1:18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the

LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy

riddance of all them that dwell in the land. So love the Lord than the things what he has given for you in this world

and for the thing what He is going to give you in Heaven forever and ever.

Hag 2:8 the silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the LORD of hosts. Amen and Glory be to His name.

“Oh, your Calvary love is priceless,

Which can’t be compared with Silver, Gold and earthly pleasures

You sacrificed your life ‘coz of your motherly love

O the precious blood, it’s gushing out from His chest,

As an exchange to change you as a precious one

Oh what a loving sacrifice.’’

Remain in His Blessing forever and ever.
